               Is she
the demure cast-down Victorian
sculpture a bulkhead

holding back a future that is now
a past

a thing of

weavings of           irregular bricks
(that could also be a bulkhead)

cemented with thick mortar
and a moderned marquee marked
Avenue    Avenue

there is no parking, although no one
seems to have arrived or
everyone has left

or this is a theatrical set        to practice
breath holding
or hand holding

the almost hip-swaying
 statue might purl air

 edge it with care

or this is premonitory
the solidified ghost of a girl
standing in as gate-keeper
a small three-tasseled purse
for her calling cards
hanging low.
