PLACES | OCTOBER 4, 2018 | KEITH MENDENHALL
This FSC Instant Film Feature, based on the theme Places, became, as I suspected that it would, one of the most pleasurable features that I’ve worked on.
As always, it provided me with the opportunity to see a beautiful assortment of instant film work, but, because of the theme, it also gave me an opportunity to travel the world vicariously through the eyes of so many very talented photographers.
And, likely because of the prize, we received the largest number of submissions that, as far as I know, we’ve ever received for a single feature. And this brought a difficulty to accompany the pleasure. I had to be brutal. And I had to choose a winner.
A note on the winner’s prize, which is a full artist feature on the Pryme Editions website. Because certain publication requirements must be met, I’ve chosen both a winner and also a runner up. If the winner is unable to meet the requirements of publication, or if the winner simply doesn’t wish to be featured on the Pryme Editions site, we’ll move along to the runner up. It’s a simple process really, and the requirements aren’t difficult to meet, but just in case, it seems to be the best way to handle it. I’ll contact the winner shortly after this FSC feature has been published, and if needed, I’ll contact the runner up.
The runner up is Per Forsström. I adore the dark beauty of his work.
And the winner is Xulong Zhang. The work that he submitted was beautiful, it was virtually tactile, and maybe most importantly, several works were indelibly marked by the place in which they were taken.
My sincere thanks to all of those that submitted.
SUBMIT
Every week the FSC features an article with a Curated Photostream that is open to all. You may only submit one (1) photo and it *must* be a jpeg file and no larger than 20 MB. Please title the file "Title_Camera_Film_YourName.jpg" so that we may properly credit you if your photo is selected. Remember to check our Submit page to see all currently open photostreams.
My next curation will be November 8. After the wonderful madness that was “Places,” let’s take a break. My next feature will have no theme, simply choose a photograph that you love, and submit it. Please submit only one photograph, in any instant film format of your choice. I plan to feature only four photographs. the winner, sorry, i don’t like that word but it serves a purpose, the winner will receive a pack of film. simple. easy. thank you. You may submit your image here.
