POLAROID ROUNDUP | FEBRUARY 5, 2018 | ABIGAIL CRONE

The theme for this month's Polaroid roundup was liminal. Liminal is a word used for places and times of changes whether big or small. Moving from night to day is liminal, taking a train ride from one town to the next is liminal, and of course going from one year to the next is liminal too.

We're one month into the new year now, and it seemed like the perfect opportunity to explore a word used for changes.  I loved seeing all the ways people chose to interpret the word. The less conventional interpretations were interesting, like Ioana Taut's parking garage (that's what it looks like correct me if I'm wrong). Lots of coming and going happens in a parking garage so it's perfect really, but I especially love that it's empty and at night, it really heightens that in-between state that the theme is all about.  I also really liked Andrew Gammell's photo of the people leaving the tunnel, the graphic lines make it seem almost like a magical vortex of some kind. Maybe they aren't just moving from one room to the next, but from one world to the next?

Thank you again for all of your wonderful submissions. I love being able to put these together, and the more you all contribute the more I enjoy it.

SUBMIT

Every week the FSC features an article with a Curated Photostream that is open to all.  You may only submit one (1) photo and it *must* be a jpeg file and no larger than 20 MB. Please title the file "Title_Camera_Film_YourName.jpg" so that we may properly credit you if your photo is selected. Remember to check our Submit page to see all currently open photostreams.

Next week will be curated by Ruby Berry and there will be no theme. You may submit your image here.

The March 8 Polaroid Roundup will be curated by Keith Mendenhall.  From Keith:  I’ve been torn. But I’ve decided that the theme of this month’s FSC Instant Film Feature is... Two. Once again... Two. Please do interpret this theme as broadly as you can possibly imagine, because absolutely anything related in any way to Two will be considered. It could be a collage of two pieces. It could be one photograph cut in two. It could be two lifts intertwined. It could be two exposures. It could be two colors. It could even be a photograph taken at two in the morning. So, that’s it... Two. Please do feel free to submit two photographs if you’d like, but no more than two. And please remember, all instant film formats, and all techniques, are acceptable. You may submit your images here.
